In 2018, we were approached to demonstrate the feasibility of fabricating interlocking flashings for several VELUX® S01 skylights on a home in Coromandel Valley, Adelaide. Apparently, this type of flashing had never been attempted before.
The requirements were to create five interlocking flashings in a portrait arrangement with the following specifications:
– 0° build-up flashings made from Colorbond® Woodland Grey®
– 2 x paired flashings and 1 x single flashing interlocked with 65mm spacing between flashings
– 3 x VELUX® S01 1140x700mm VSE (solar opening) skylights with blackout blinds
– 2 x VELUX® S01 1140x700mm FS (non-opening) skylights with honeycomb blinds
The flashings were fabricated as single units in the workshop, with a practice install to test the suitability of interlocking. Once we were satisfied, they were delivered to site and installed. The result is a bank of five VELUX® S01 windows which brings much needed daylight into an outdated kitchen.
We turned what was considered non-practical, into something we do everyday.
